How a clause that allows more than one reading applies is the engineer's call. Calcs.com does not interpret ambiguous clauses on your behalf. Requirements are carried into working calculations intact, and professional judgment about how a clause applies stays with the engineer. ## Clauses are carried across, not reinterpreted When a standard is built into a calculation, the requirement is reproduced as written. Calcs.com does not resolve a clause that the standard leaves open, and it does not substitute a house rule for the published text. Where a clause allows more than one reading, that choice belongs to the engineer responsible for the design. The calculation shows which clause is being applied so you can make that call with the source in front of you. ## Standards bodies keep control of scope and governance Standards bodies remain in control of the scope and governance of their own material. Calcs.com does not extend, abridge, or restate a standard beyond what the standards body publishes. ## Seeing which clause applies Every check in a calculation names its reference. Read the clause in the standard itself rather than relying on a summary. 2. Check any commentary or guidance the standards body publishes alongside it. 3. Decide which reading applies to your structure, and record why. 4. Note the decision in the calculation or the project file so a reviewer can follow it. If the calculation appears to apply a clause in a way you disagree with, raise it with support before overriding it. Include the calculator name, the clause number, and the standard edition.
