Engineering Calculators

🚀 New Features

  • Seismic Analysis (NBCC 2020) 🇨🇦: Now out of beta. Adds vertical seismic force distribution, a base shear limit indicator, and an optional Elastic Analysis block. Canadian Project Defaults now include seismic site parameters.
  • 🚧 NEW CALCULATOR COMING SOON Seismic Analysis (NBCC 2025) 🇨🇦: New beta calculator for the NBCC 2025 Equivalent Static Force Procedure, with updated low seismic hazard exemption logic, 15% snow load in seismic weight, and 2025 clause numbering.
  • Steel Base Plate (ACI 318-19 & AISC 360-22) 🇺🇸: Major expansion. Adds anchor tension checks (cantilever and pure-moment methods per AISC DG1), a fillet weld check for combined tension, shear, and moment, custom anchor layouts beyond 2×2, thin-concrete breakout factors, anchor shear redistribution, and biaxial bending interaction for both plate and anchors.
  • Cold-Formed Steel Stud / Column (AISI S100-16) 🇺🇸: Now supports lateral load design. Adds strong-axis flexure (lateral–torsional, local, and distortional buckling), combined axial-and-bending interaction, and short- and long-term deflection checks. Moment utilization appears in the design summary.
  • Seismic Analysis (ASCE 7-16) and Seismic Analysis (ASCE 7-22) 🇺🇸: Four new opt-in features (all default off): flexible diaphragm overstrength reduction, about 13 more SFRS systems per edition, an auto-calculated redundancy factor ρ with manual override, and optional 1.10× accidental torsion amplification.
  • Snow Loads (ASCE 7-16) and Snow Loads (ASCE 7-22) 🇺🇸: Lower-roof drift now shows separate leeward and windward pressures instead of one governing value. Added Section 7.7.2 adjacent-structure drift, with its own inputs, drift-height calculation, and pressure tables.
  • Pole Footing (IBC 2024 / IBC 2021) 🇺🇸: New Axial Capacity Mode selector under Soil Properties: End Bearing Only, Shaft Friction Only, or Combined per Geotechnical Report.

🛠️ Improvements & Fixes

  • Steel Composite Beam (AISC 360-22) 🇺🇸: Composite Action now affects Moment Capacity – Composite for partial designs, Moment Capacity – Precomposite uses bare steel instead of copying the composite value, LTB now checks against the right stage’s governing moment, and force-equilibrium display errors are fixed.
  • Steel Base Plate (ACI 318-19 & AISC 360-22) 🇺🇸: Thread count now feeds into anchor tensile capacity. Fixed shear breakout branch order for welded and closely-spaced anchors, axial load double-counting when entered on both X and Y load tables (axial is now entered once), and axis swaps in plan and elevation diagrams. Legacy manual entries are preserved on upgrade.
  • Cold-Formed Steel Stud / Column (AISI S100-16) 🇺🇸: Corrected AISI reference citations, deflection span ratio now rejects zero, axial-bending and shear-bending checks are surfaced in the header, and reactions and dead load can now be linked into other calculators.
  • Seismic Analysis (NBCC 2020) 🇨🇦: Cleaned up the input layout, added code clause references to headings, and added Design Spectral Acceleration at Period to the results summary. No numeric changes.
  • Wind Loads (ASCE 7-22) 🇺🇸: Roof overhang uplift pressures now calculate correctly in individual effective area mode (previously blank).
  • Steel Base Plate (AISC 360-22) 🇺🇸: Pure-moment connections (zero axial, non-zero moment) no longer show plate thickness and anchor tension as zero. Now uses AISC DG1 Eq. 4-32.
  • Concrete Wall Footing: Fixed an “Unexpected error” when using mesh reinforcement (like trench mesh). Diagram labels now use mesh count and type instead of the hidden bar spacing input.
  • Beam and Rafter calculators (14 templates): Clearer wording on the Load Direction When Linking to Column widget, explaining axial (Ny) vs. lateral (Px) for inclined rafters. No calculation changes.

Platform Improvements

🚀 New Features

  • New sidebar (gated preview): Behind a feature flag, a persistent icon nav rail replaces the per-page sidebar, and a new collapsible project sidebar adds drag-and-drop sheet and group reordering, stale and failed sheet indicators, and faster project loads.
  • Assumptions button on embedded calculators: Embedded calculators now show an “Assumptions…” button in the toolbar when the template has assumptions defined, opening the same content as the regular calculator’s Sheet Details sidebar.

🛠️ Improvements & Fixes

  • Upgrade page redirect loop: Users with urgent calculation upgrades no longer get stuck on the /upgrade page when navigating inside a project under the new layout.
  • New sidebar routing: Direct links to /billing, /organisation/[id]/users, and new project creation now render the new sidebar and respect the settings feature gate. Billing and user management route to the new settings page for eligible admins.
  • Project sidebar and standards pages: The project sidebar stays pinned on long pages, standards code and clause pages render correctly with the new sidebar, and deleting a sheet reliably returns you to the project details page.
  • Solver outages no longer crash sheets: If a remote solver like USGS Design Maps is down, sheets stay interactive with a warning banner instead of showing a full-page error, so you can enter values manually.

Calcs Builder

🚀 New Features

  • Hidden badge on the canvas: Widgets marked hidden now show a light-blue “Hidden” badge directly on the canvas and internal preview, so you can spot them without opening each widget.
