Atlas Tube Connection Hub

🚀 New Features

  • 🚧 NEW CALCULATOR COMING SOON HSS to HSS Torsion Connection (AISC 360-22) 🇺🇸: New beta calculator for End Plate connections with shear and torsion load inputs, AISC 360-22 §H3.1 beam torsional strength checks, §H3.2 torsion screening, combined torsion and shear checks via the eccentric weld group method (Manual Tables 8-4 and 8-6), and an H3-6 shear–torsion interaction check.
  • 🚧 NEW CALCULATOR COMING SOON HSS Beam to HSS Girder Shear Connection (AISC 360-22) 🇺🇸: New calculator covering five connection types (Coped Beam, Through Bolt & Coped Beam, Single Plate, Exterior Plates, Through Bolt & Exterior Plates) with full plate, beam, and girder limit states and a girder torsion check per §H3.1. A new Hidden connection type with an internal hanger plate and shear cut plate has also been added, with torsion demand targeted to the girder lever arm.
  • HSS to HSS Splice Connection (AISC 360-22) 🇺🇸: Round HSS bolted splice with welded gussets is out of beta, with shear limit states across the HSS column, bolt group, splice plates, gusset plates and weld, combined shear-and-tension interaction checks, ICR bolt groups with load-angle interpolation, and a shear-plus-moment same-sides branch. Also added AISC 341-22 seismic design checks for End-Plate connections and full moment limit states for Square and Rectangular End-Plate connections per Packer & Kennedy 2025.
  • Longitudinal Plate to HSS Connection (AISC 360-22) 🇺🇸: Extended T-, Y-, and Cross-connection support to square and rectangular HSS chords, and added chord in-plane bending with axial-and-bending interaction. The new interaction also applies to round-chord Y-connections and may change the governing check.
  • Transverse Plate to HSS Connection (AISC 360-22) 🇺🇸: Added per-plate chord plastification and shear yielding checks for Cross connections, a plan-view diagram, and a corrected weld directional strength factor (k_ds 1.5 → 1.0). End distance reduction is no longer applied to the weld limit state.
  • Column Bracing (AISC 360-22) 🇺🇸: External Double Gusset is out of beta, with moment–shear–normal interaction at the beam-to-gusset interface added for all connection types and new eccentric weld group and maximum weld size checks. Also added full combined moment-and-torsion interaction checks for the single plate using the Dowswell plastic-strength method, aligning the US template with the Canadian implementation.
  • Chevron Bracing (AISC 360-22 & CSA S16:19) 🇺🇸 🇨🇦: Added an Independent Brace Loads mode so unequal brace forces can be designed, with per-load-combination demand pairing for beam-to-gusset, gusset, and transverse shear checks, plus tensile yielding capacity and resultant weld demand for the normal force case.
  • HSS Truss Connection (AISC 360-22) 🇺🇸: 1-branch and 2-branch oblique surplus cases now classify as combined Y and X per AISC DG24 §9.3 instead of returning Not Supported.

🛠️ Improvements & Fixes

  • HSS to HSS Splice Connection (AISC 360-22 & CSA S16:19) 🇺🇸 🇨🇦: Bolt recommendation now respects Shuriken corner clearance, and a CSA crossed-dimension fix corrects long-side vs short-side clearance. For Square and Rectangular columns in tension, the end-plate weld is now required to develop the HSS wall yield strength.
  • HSS to HSS Moment Connection (AISC 360-22) 🇺🇸: Redesigned the stiffener weld from the moment-blind E&S model to a tee shear-flow model and corrected the stiffener-to-flange-plate weld to use the stiffener weld size. Existing stiffened seat designs should be re-checked.
  • HSS to WF Moment Connection (AISC 360-22) 🇺🇸: Applied the same stiffener weld shear-flow redesign as the HSS to HSS Moment fix. Existing stiffened seat designs should be re-checked.
  • HSS to HSS Shear Connection (AISC 360-22 & CSA S16:19) 🇺🇸 🇨🇦: End Plate gage distance now requires the AISC Manual Table 7-15 tightening clearance instead of the bolt diameter alone. Also corrected the Shuriken bolt symbol on H-type connection diagrams and updated HSS wall thickness in diagrams to nominal, not design, thickness.
  • HSS Truss Connection (AISC 360-22) 🇺🇸: Corrected chord shear yielding (punching shear) to evaluate for gapped Round K-Connections and combined TKYX classifications, and fixed a mismatched capacity reference in the first-branch KT-Connection punching shear check. Also fixed a red-bar error on Unbalanced YX 2-branch cases with small rectangular chords. Existing gapped Round K-Connection and KT-Connection designs should be re-checked.
  • WF to HSS Shear Connection (CSA S16:19) 🇨🇦: Fixed Simple Beam on Cap Plate to use cap-plate web bearing limits per Cl 21.3(a) and 14.3.2(a) instead of seated end-reaction formulas, corrected the cap-bolt tensile utilization check that always passed, and fixed swapped resistance factors on stiffened seated stiffener limit states. Existing Simple Beam on Cap Plate sheets should be re-checked.
  • WF to HSS Moment Connection (AISC 360-22 & CSA S16:19) 🇺🇸 🇨🇦: Fixed the slip-critical option for Diaphragm Plate II so web shear plate bolts are evaluated for slip resistance and read the correct bolt grade and thread condition. Existing slip-critical Diaphragm Plate II designs should be re-checked.
  • Column Bracing and Chevron Bracing (AISC 360-22) 🇺🇸: Corrected splice plate tensile rupture to apply AISC 360-22 Table D3.1 Case 4 shear lag based on weld length vs brace width, replacing the previous U = 1.0 assumption. Designs with short welds relative to brace width may see reduced splice plate capacity.
  • Chevron and Column Bracing (CSA S16:19) 🇨🇦: Brace Grade now displays for G40.21 HSS, and display units were corrected for gusset plastic section moduli and force and moment columns.
  • HSS Beam to HSS Girder Shear Connection (AISC 360-22) 🇺🇸: Refreshed the connection type selector icons and corrected the LRFD load combinations heading to cite ASCE 7-16 only. The heading fix also applies to the HSS Shear and HSS Moment calculators.
  • HSS Truss Bolted Connection 🇺🇸: Added the Atlas Tube sponsor badge.

Calcs Builder
