# Introduction

> What Calcs.com is, who it is for, and how it keeps every calculation traceable.

Calcs.com is a cloud platform for structural engineers. It gives you a growing library of code-compliant calculators for structural steel, concrete, timber and more, so you can run instant code checks, link loads between members, and package your calculations for client review or permit submission.

Every calculator shows its full working: the inputs, the formulas, and the code provision each check is made against. You stay in control of the design. Calcs.com removes the rebuilding.

## Where Calcs.com came from

Calcs.com was founded in 2016 by Chris Borzillo and Steven Robinson. Chris had watched structural engineers lose hours jumping between different tools just to finish one design, and Steven knew software could fix it. What started as a fix for one frustrating part of the job is now used by engineers in more than 80 countries.

## Transparent by design

One of our philosophies at Calcs.com is to be transparent. We don't want to be a black box. You'll see every step of the calculation, and you can go deeper: click on any label or result (for example, shear design or shear reduction factor) to see a description, the reference we use, and the equation we're applying. This is available across almost every step of our calculations.
